Dragon Con Writers Meetup
We had a great time at Dragon Con at the Writers Meetup. This year marked the inaugural appearance of Cursed Dragon Ship Publishing, LLC.
Fifty or so writers mingled amongst the diverse crowd of multiple-published authors to still-working-on-that-first-WIP newbies. There’s something magical about a group of introverts being all social and stuff. Cursed Dragon Ship didn’t come empty-handed. We brought two calls for submissions for anthologies. It’s always nice to bring something for the attendees while we relax and talk work at the same time.
Tribe members of the Superstars Writing Seminar were well represented. It’s an amazing group of creatives. Anyone who is serious about the business of writing should attend this enlightening event held every February. You can find out more here.
Legion of Dorks, the podcasters who also happen to be incredible writers, came to shake hands as well. Most of the ones who came have stories in our upcoming release “Laundered: An Anthology of Monster Messes.” It’s available for preorder now. All proceeds after the cost of production go to the Legion of Dorks Charity Stream to be held in December for Toys for Tots.
Jody Lynn Nye’s Writers Workshop alumni were also present. Since the workshop takes place at Dragon Con, this group attended the first ever Writer Meet Up way back in 2017.
We were lucky enough to get some big names as well. New York Times Bestselling Author Jonathan Maberry is a wealth of knowledge and generous with his fans and fellow writers alike. Former president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) Russell Davis shared his insight on the book publishing industry.
This business is just like any other. Who you know counts. Meet Ups like this one offer a unique opportunity to rub elbows and–probably more importantly–exchange business cards with others in your business. Don’t miss the chance!
If you’re at Dragon Con next year and you’re a writer, come out and see us at the Westin bar on Friday night. We’ll be there.
