Madness of People

by Shelly Campbell and Megan King

Sol Survivors:

Madness of People

Book: 2

Iris Ecosia’s world has ended more than once. The first time, she was too young to remember. Solar flares wiped out electrical grids and whittled her stiff-collared community into a seller of data and rare books. The second time, Iris’s beloved Uncle Nate used her as a catalyst to thrust her people into a civil war that ousted their greedy CEO David Kahn, but left their town, Painted Bluff, broken and defenseless.

Iris is not about to let her world end a third time. She’s a community leader now, and presses to forge an alliance with the starving but well-armed marauders who stalk Painted Bluff’s borders.

But she’s not the only one making deals. Robert Lycos, the boy she’s loved for as long as she can remember sees another solution: a partnership with a coal company. Iris is horrified when Robert admits to volunteering as hostage to expedite the deal.

When Kahn escapes imprisonment and makes a deal of his own, everything both young people have built topples. Now the race is on to establish strong alliances before their old CEO gathers enough resources to take his town back and bring Iris’s world crashing down one last time.

About the Author: Shelly Campbell and Megan King

At a young age, Shelly Campbell wanted to be an air show pilot or a pirate, possibly a dragon and definitely a writer and artist. She’s piloted a Cessna 172 through spins and stalls and sailed up the east coast on a tall ship barque—mostly without projectile vomiting. In the end, Shelly found writing fantasy and drawing dragons to be so much easier on the stomach. Shelly’s grimdark fantasy novel, UNDER THE LESSER MOON, was published by Mythos and Ink November 2020, and its sequel, VOICE OF THE BANISHED, will be hitting shelves in March 2022. She also has a quiet horror novel, GULF, which released in April 2021 with Silver Shamrock publishing, and has co-authored MAKING MYTHS AND MAGIC with Allison Alexander. It’s a field guide to writing sci-fi and fantasy with Mythos and Ink publishing.

Megan King has been a singer, dancer, artist, and most recently, an author, where she fills her time turning weird dreams into story ideas. She supports her arts habit by working as an optician. In her spare time, she listens to Canadian alt rock music pretty constantly and spends time with her family, which includes two dogs and a very large cat.
